Meeting of Iran – P5+1 Joint Commission

JCPOA commission underlined full implementation of nuclear deal

The meeting of the Iran-P5+1 Joint Commission, which monitors the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, has been convened in the Austrian capital of Vienna in 25 April 2017.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Ministers Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, along with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid, as well as senior diplomats from other P5+1 group of countries attended the meeting of the commission.

According to Mr. Araqchi, Iranian head of the Joint Commission, Islamic Republic had lived up to its commitments under the JCPOA. He said: “As the entire world knows and repeated reports by the IAEA have confirmed, Iran has always been committed to its obligations and carefully implemented the JCPOA”. He, however, emphasized that the other side had not fully complied with its obligations under the JCPOA.

Ms. Helga Schmid as chair of the JCPOA Joint Commission issued a statement in which she announced: “All participants noted their continued adherence to JCPOA commitments and stressed the need to ensure its full and effective implementation.

She added: “The meeting provided the opportunity to address the implementation of the JCPOA with regard to nuclear and sanctions related commitments. The Joint Commission particularly welcomed the important progress made on the Arak modernisation project, where Chinese and Iranian companies signed the first consultancy services contract on Sunday, 23 April, in Vienna. Participants discussed the importance of implementation of Annex III of the JCPOA on civil nuclear cooperation, and welcomed in this context the recent EU-Iran high-level seminar on international nuclear cooperation.
